Batch Preferences

From Audacity Manual

Jump to: navigation, search

Batch Preferences allow you to set up a chain of commands that can be applied to multiple files. The batch Chain is executed from the menu item File > Apply Chain

With items moving out, we now only have the 'Cleanspeech mode' and (in debug versions) 'Don't apply effects in batch mode'. This suggests we might lose this tab and move cleanspeech mode to the interface tab?? Needs discussion on audacity-devel, I guess.

I have cut and saved the items that no longer appear in this tab and will move them appropriately. For now, until Batch becomes more advanced and may need a Preferences tab, I agree, move "Clean Speech" to interface tab. Maybe a "Menu:" dropdown under "Other interface choices" and choose between "Normal", "Clean Speech", and your "student" mode? IMO I see no need to ask about this on devel-list. It's already 2-0 in favour, and Batch would look ridiculous with one field - Gale

Batch Preferences

Behaviors

  • CleanSpeech Mode: A radical customisation of Audacity developed by Lynn Allan which is used for cleaning up large numbers of voice recordings, using Normalize, Truncate Silence and Noise removal steps.

ToDo Eventually move these to new homes
  • *Batch Debug Mode If checked, then when you execute the batch chain no actual work will be done, but Audacity will go through the steps of telling you what it would do.

Batch Options

--Currently being reworked--

This has options for completely changing the batch processing chain:

  • Empty Chain A starting point for your own batch chain.
  • CleanSpeech Chain The batch chain designed for work in CleanSpeech mode (see Behaviors above).
  • MP3 Conversion Chain A simple chain for loading a series of wav files and saving them as a series of MP3 files.

Also:

  • Load Chain Loads a batch chain from a file.
  • Save Chain Saves the current chain to a file.

The current batch chain will be remembered between Audacity sessions whether or not you save it to a file. Loading and saving the chain to a file is useufl if you want to keep several different batch chains.

Batch Sequence

The list shown in this section allows you to edit the batch chain.

  • Double click on any item to edit it. This opens an editor dialog. You can then select a different step from the list. You can also edit the parameters by clicking on the Edit Parameters button.
  • To add a new step on the end, double click on the step marked '-END-' and then proceed as above.
  • To delete a step, double click on it and select 'No Action' from the list of commands.

There is currently no way to add an effect into the middle of the batch chain.
