From Audacity Development Manual
Jump to: navigation, search

Use the EQ XML to TXT Converter tool to convert an XML file of exported EQ (equalization) presets made from The Equalization effect in older versions of Audacity to the TXT text file required by Graphic EQ and Filter Curve EQ.
  • XML files of EQ presets obtained on the Internet are also suitable for this conversion and them import into either of the EQ effects.
This Tool is not enabled by default. To enable it, use Tools > Plugin Manager  to open the Plugin Manager dialog.
Advice This tool is no longer shipped in Audacity from version 3.5.0 onwards.
  • You can download the tool from here on Muse's support site.
  • Alternatively you can install and run an older version of Audacity, 3.4.2 or earlier.
    • You can download older versions of Audacity from here.
    • It is recommended that you install the older version in a folder that is named differently from the normal Audacity download folder, say Audacity 3-4-2 for example.

Select target EQ effect

Curves to be imported can be either for Filter Curve EQ effect or Graphic EQ effect but not both. This enables you to select which EQ effect you wish to use the importable TXT file for.

Equalization XML file

Specifies the XML file that you wish to convert. You can either type it (full path) in directly or search for it with the Select a file button.

If output text file exists

The resultant file will be output to a file with the same name and same path location as your target XML file but will be given a .txt extension

Here you can tell Audacity what to do if a TXT file of that name already exists.

The choices are:

  • Append number (default)
  • Overwrite
  • Error

Importing the resulting TXT text file

Once you have your TXT file created by this Tool you can then go to Filter Curve EQ or Graphic EQ (whichever you targetted the Tool at) and use the Manage button and select Import.
